Our group approached the issue of an impending water crisis by identifying four main sectors that could be enhanced in order to increase the efficiency of water use in a given city. These sectors were: water treatment facilities to counter the effects of pollution, overuse of water by the public/businesses, lack of efficient infrastructure, and climate change. Our approach to the problem involves using technology and big data to better understand the use of water in the city and from this knowledge, devise and implement more stringent regulations of water use at the municipal level. This monitoring could be expanded to other areas such as the agriculture sector in the future, if successful and if resources were sufficient.
