A responsible consumer is someone who is aware of the environmental effect of their purchases, whether they are buying a physical product or service. They make decisions on what to buy based on the sustainability of the product, and try to reduce the total environmental impact of their consumption.
I usually buy food daily, coffee twice a week, an Uber ride once a week, clothes once a month, shoes once or twice a year.
I mostly shop in person, but I order some things from Amazon. Usually I walk or take the bus to shop, but sometimes I drive when I have access to a car.
Cost is usually the most important factor to me.
I consider the end of life when something is quickly disposable, like a paper coffee cup or a chocolate bar. It's harder to consider with products with indefinite lifetimes, like clothing. If something is more disposable with more plastic, I might be less likely to purchase.
I can be a more responsible consumer by thinking about all the environmental effects of a product when I purchase it, including effects from manufacturing suppliers and in its disposal. This way, I can choose products with lower impact with this wider perspective.
