a) Here, is my cheese production setup. We did not have a cheesecloth handy but with some googling I learned any cotton cloth is fine. So this cloth is filled with about 2 cups of greek yogurt that has salt pepper and a bit of olive oil mixed into it. I will let it rest in the strainer overnight so as to keep it elevated and hopefully will have cheese in the morning!!
b) During my team's analysis of the cheese wastewater problem, we identified three possible solutions and decided that the most efficient was to create a new material that absorbs the salt present in the water. Once absorbed this material would have a greater density than the water which will cause the salt filled material to sink(same system as GAC) and enable it to be filtered. This saturated material could then be sent back to the origin company, where the salt will be extracted and resold to construction or landscaping companies. Finally, the origin company sends the newly-cleaned material back to the cheese factory. Thus promoting a circular economy and collaboration amongst individuals.
