Choose a product produced in a circular manner:
Describe the product you have chosen.
Denmark has implemented a type of social housing centered around circular economy principles. Currently, there are 60 housing units in Lisbjerg, with construction expected to be completed in 2023.
Why do you consider it circular?
According to the website, 90% of the materials used in construction can be separated and sold at an equal or higher value. The housing is also meant to last longer and is sparking discussions about using circular economy principles in a more widespread way throughout the industry.
Which principles of CE models are being used?
Denmark’s housing project implements the product design, business model, and looping principles of the CE models. The materials used in the housing are designed to be long-lasting, easy to repair, and easily separated. Circle House is also working with the rest of the industry to inspire more circular principles to be implemented by transforming the current model. Materials will also be circulated in the future as the houses can be easily disassembled and the parts can be used to build more housing.
What are the economic and environmental benefits?
Being able to reuse housing materials or sell them to other industries to make more money for the housing industry will save large amounts of money in the long run. Using materials which are sustainable and can be reused or repurposed prevents a lot of additional waste from going into landfills or in the dump.
Which one of the “5 business-models” does it belong to?
Circle House belongs to the long-lifetime business model as it primarily focuses on using durable and long-lasting materials.
