Choose a product produced in a circular manner:
1. Describe the product you have chosen.
Adidas Ultraboost DNA Loop shoes are made of thermoplastic polyurethane with no glue and are designed to be returned when the customer is done using them.
2. Why do you consider it circular?
Adidas designed the shoes so that they are only one material and when they are returned, they can be ground up and reused to make more of the same shoes.
3. Which principles of CE models are being used?
This uses the principles of product design and keep looping since they use a single material that is designed to be reused to make more of the same shoes.
4. What are the economic and environmental benefits?
The environmental benefits are that there does not need to be as much manufacture of plastic since the plastic from the shoes is being reused. Also the used shoes wouldn’t be sent to a landfill, so there’s less waste produced. The economic benefits are that Adidas gets back the majority of the plastic they use to make the shoes so that they need to purchase less raw materials to produce their products.
5. Which one of the “5 business-models” does it belong to?
This belongs to the waste to wealth business model since the waste from the shoes is used to make more shoes.
